If you’ve been to Bourbon Street in New Orleans, LA lately, you’ve seen the road construction project that is going on.
The project was to replace the existing street pavement on the famous New Orleans location, along with some of the water, sewer and drainage lines. Pedestrians were still allowed to walk along the sidewalks, thankfully helping to prevent any pedestrian accidents or car accidents.
Minor excavation work in the parking lanes of Bourbon Street between Canal and Dumaine streets may also occur to speed up the project. French Quarter streets are also in poor condition, and city officials say more than half of the drainage pipes under the street are undersized.
Unfortunately, the city of New Orleans now says the project will cost more than expected because of crews encountering old sewerage and drainage pipes and electrical lines that they had not expected would be there. They say the project is still expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Hopefully, the project is on track to be completed on time, as studies show that construction zones increase the risk of car accidents and pedestrian accidents. Many of those were fatal accidents.
