New Orleans to Introduce Bike Sharing Program, Helping to Reduce Car Accidents

Bicycle sign on the asphalt bicycle lane

In an effort to promote low-cost transportation to New Orleans residents and pedestrians, the City of New Orleans will be launching its bike-sharing program in early December. Bike-sharing has been shown to encourage people to drive less, thus reducing car accidents

Over the month of December, New Orleans will roll out more bike stations across the city. You can see an interactive map here, but a few of these major New Orleans streets will have bike stations:

  • Esplanade Avenue
  • Royal Street
  • Conti Street
  • Saint Bernard Avenue

Although bicycling has many benefits, bike riders are still at risk for car accidents & car crashes. Bicyclists accounted for 2 percent of all traffic deaths and 2 percent of all crash-related bodily injuries in 2014. All States require bicyclists on the road to follow the same rules and responsibilities as motorists in automobiles.

If you’ve been injured in a bike related car accident call a trusted bike accident lawyer to help before you talk to the insurance companies. If you’ve been in an accident with a pedestrian, our trusted car accident lawyer in New Orleans, Richard Voorhies can help you as well.
